Key Benefits
  • The CRD molding shop is designed to produce and reproduce small molded technical and artistic parts as well as potted modules and assemblies.

  • Through the application of castable urethane, silicon molding technology CRD is capable of replicating obsolete and unavailable plastic parts.

  • Some of the urethanes we utilize exhibit characteristics very similar to ABS injection molded thermoplastic after a post molding cure of 110-150° F (43-66° C).

  • Electro-mechanical components with imbedded metal and/or electrical elements can be created.

  • Silicon molding has a very low "Cost of Entry" and reasonable unit pricing.

Capabilities
We have molded embedded conductor, semiconductor test probes with dimensions as small as 200 mils X 173 mils X 1,540 mils weighing only .6 grams up to castings of 53 grams and dimensions of 2.6 in X 2.6 in X 1.15 in.  The process is very straight forward, therefore much larger components as well as items requiring undercut and intricate detail are well within our capability.

Molds in production

Silicon cast molding is a reasonably simple process.  Two molds, after pouring are waiting for the cure time to pass so the "raw" parts can be removed and finished.  Creating master parts and molds is very cost effective compared to injection molding.  Additionally, delivery of  parts can often begin within just a few days.

Mechanical latch reproduction

(A) The original component was no longer available.  Additionally, the only sample had been broken into multiple pieces and the general condition of the part showed wear.  We repaired the original as much as possible then sculpted the missing elements and sharp edges onto the original.  Utilizing the "repaired" original we were able to craft a two piece silicon book mold.

Regret-me-not figurine (TM)

This unique product is an exciting combination of artistry and technology!  It is crafted utilizing two molded components with proprietary microprocessor electronics installed in the base cavity.

The water clear dome is molded against platinum cure silicon with an extractable internal plug forming the "baby" cavity.  The base is cast in a tin cure silicone two piece book mold with the first layer of finish sprayed into the cavity.  Therefore the first finish layer becomes an integral part of the casting and also acts as  the mold release agent.

CRD designed every aspect of this product.  The baby plug was sculptured by an outstanding artistic associate and the base by another very talented artist.  The electronics and software were designed and manufactured at CRD.  We have produced and shipped thousands of these figurines.
